General Sutter's diary, [ca. 1856 May].

Mounted clippings of the so-called diary as published in The Argonaut, Jan. 26 and Feb. 2, 9 and 16, 1878. Prepared for his legal advisors in the course of litigation over his land grants, it covers events from the time he left Missouri in 1838 to the spring of 1850 when he comments on his great losses and troubles with squatters during the gold rush. Some of the narrative is in diary form but most of it is extended recollections.

Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area. He is descended from the Thatchers of Uffington, England, the same family as Denis Thatcher, husband of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. From the description of H.H.
